Tribal Involvement

The Narragansett Tribe has always been my community, my day to day life is focused on the growth and well-being of our people. In addition to attending and participating in our August Meeting I have been involved in the following:

  • Tribal Elders meetings. Participated at the Three Fires on Elder’s Day
  • Dance at Harvest Thanksgiving as well as enjoy the delicious turkey dinner
  • Narragansett Tribal Economic Development Commission’s Native Art Festival where I have coordinated the Narragansett Community singers’ performance
  • Attend Narragansett Meetinghouse services
  • Participated and led Narragansett Language classes
  • Attended Environmental Conferences as an Elder through our Natural Resources department.
  • Volunteered for the Narragansett Namaus Project
  • Participated in the Narragansett Tribe Hearing at RI Select Commission on Race and Police Community Relations
  • Johnson O’Malley Parent Education Committee’s Tribal Youth Honoring Ceremonies, Fall bonfire – told traditional stories, and the Nikkommo celebration
  • Community Wellness programs such as retreat at Alton Jones and Lobster feast at the Longhouse, and GONA programs, Native Aspirations
  • Friday Night movies at Longhouse
  • Narragansett holiday market where I sold art and crafts
  • Many programs offered by the Narragansett Health Center such as; Day One ( a 24 hour training for advocacy and resources for domestic violence, sexual assault and hate crimes), Healing Unresolved Grief Training, Rites of Passage, Healthy Eating, Yoga, Weight Watchers, Wellbriety trainings, such as, Daughters of Tradition, and Women’s Day. I also utilize the NIH clinic for primary care
  • Silver Cloud Senior group where I participate in various activities (going to powwows, sewing, painting, dinners, contributing for shut-ins)
  • Attend monthly tribal meetings, and many special meetings ie., TEC
  • Lunch at the Tribal Mealsite for socialization, cultural & community continuation
  • Attend July 14th memorial gatherings where we remember our sovereignty
  • Served on the United for Justice committee where we organized against Carcieri v Salazar  for our sovereignty.
  • Served as Master of Ceremonies at the Great Swamp Memorial
  • Participated in the Narragansett Tribe and Blackfeet & Maori Perspectives on “Health Disparities, Colonization, & Historical Trauma: Achieving Positive Community Revitalization through First People’s Cultural and Spiritual Practices, Beliefs and Values”
